In the production of blisks HSC milling (HSC = high-speed cutting) is used to machine the airfoils after linear friction welding of blades and disk. The forged airfoils are finished parts except for an allowance for linear friction welding. An allowance is also left on the joint and hub areas.Adaptive milling is performed on a 6-axis HSC milling machine. In the process, a measuring cycle is performed on the machine to determine deviations of the contour from its nominal geometry and nominal position. The measured data is then processed online by an NC program. This allows a nearly tangential transition between forged and milled areas to be achieved in the subsequent milling operation.
