Columnar crystal

Columnar crystals are elongated grains (crystal) oriented in the preferred direction. Their shape is comparable to that of icicles. If a material consists of a large number of columnar crystals oriented in the same direction its properties depend on the direction in which the grains are oriented (anisotropy).
