Combustion chamber

In the combustion chamber the air supplied by the compressor is mixed with fuel and then burnt. This generates enormous pressures and very high temperatures far in excess of 2000 °C. The combustion process also produces all harmful substances emitted by an engine. Therefore, attempts are made at reducing these emissions, in particular nitrogen oxides, by modifying injection and mixing concepts. Because of the very high temperatures combustion chambers require special thermal barrier coatings.
