This crack inspection method serves to detect discontinuities in the surface or at a very small depth below the surface as well as deformation and segregations. The method is frequently used in addition to other crack inspection methods to verify their results, in particular in critical component areas. All conductive materials can be inspected by this method. In the process an eddy current is induced into the component. The inductive reaction which is measured using a probe is affected by material separations, form changes and segregations. The resulting changes in voltage, phase and/or current can be rendered visible on an oscilloscope.
