Fluorescent penetrant inspection
This crack inspection method serves to detect discontinuities (min. gap width approx. 1 µm) in the surface of components. Materials eligible for this inspection must have non-absorbing surfaces and be preferably non-magnetic. In the process an inspection medium (penetrant) is applied on the surface which fluoresces under UV light. After an adequate penetration time excess penetrant is wiped off and the component inspected under UV light for cracks rendered visible by the penetrant entrapped therein.
