Laser drilling
Laser drilling is used to produce cooling air holes in turbine blades and vanes. In the process the laser beam is focused on the surface to be drilled. The high energy density causes the material to melt before it is blown off by a gas jet. A cylindrical hole is produced by applying several short "shots" at short intervals to one and the same point on the surface. Laser drilling is a quick, flexible and cost-effective hole-drilling process.
