Nitriding

Components in low-alloy steels which are subjected to fatigue stresses in operation are nitrided to improve their surface hardness, wear and corrosion resistance as well as their operating properties. This is particularly important in the case of shafts, pump wheels, pressing tools or forging dies. The process may, however, involve treatments of up to 60 hours and more.
