In the manufacture of PM components a very fine grained powder of an alloy with high nickel content is filled into a thin-walled sheet-metal shell. The powder is then hot-isostatically pressed in an argon atmosphere at extremely high temperatures. PM disks are superior to forged disks in terms of strength and service life.
