Rotary friction welding
Inertia welding is the most widely used variant of rotary friction welding. At MTU the process is applied to manufacture highly stressed rotating components. The surfaces to be joined are, as a rule, axisymmetric. The rotary friction welding machines available at MTU are inertia welding machines. The energy needed in the welding process corresponds to the kinetic energy of a flywheel accelerated to a specified speed.
