Solid-film lubricants

Solid-film lubricants are used to reduce wear and fretting corrosion and to protect moving metallic parts that are in contact with each other from seizing. Depending on the solid particles and binders used such lubricants can be used at temperatures up to 300°C (PTFE), 400°C (MoS2) and 500°C (graphite). The lubricant films are applied with a spray gun following abrasive blasting, chemical or anodic conversion of the surfaces to be coated and stoved after flashing-off. In most cases the thickness of solid-film lubricant coats is less than 20 µm.
