Thermal barrier coatings
During operation engine components are subjected to a combination of mechanical, thermal and chemical loads. Frequently the materials used are not capable of meeting the exacting requirements. They must therefore be protected by high-temperature resistant coatings capable of withstanding temperatures as high as 2500°C. Thermal barrier coatings are mainly used in combustion chambers and on turbine blades and vanes.
