MTU Aero Engines is Germany's leading aero engine manufacturer and is one of the big global players in the industry. The company designs, develops, manufactures and markets commercial and military engine modules and components. Its products find homes on aircraft, helicopters and industrial gas turbines. Its second large business is the maintenance of commercial engines; in this field, the company is the world's largest independent services provider in terms of sales.
With its products for the commercial airliner market, MTU has content on engines in all power and thrust categories. The product applications span the whole gamut from wide-body aircraft, such as the new Airbus A380 or Boeing 787 Dreamliner, to large airliners, such as the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, all the way to short-haul aircraft and business jets. MTU has a global workforce of some 8,500 employees. In fiscal 2012, the company posted consolidated revenues in the amount of 3.4 billion euros. In 2012 MTU generated an adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT adjusted) of 374 million euros. This corresponds to an adjusted EBIT margin of 11.1%.
