Company Profile

MTU Aero Engines is Germany's leading aero engine manufacturer and is one of the big global players in the industry. The company designs, develops, manufactures and markets commercial and military engine modules and components. Its products find homes on aircraft, helicopters and industrial gas turbines. Its second large business is the maintenance of commercial engines; in this field, the company is the world's largest independent services provider in terms of sales.

With its products for the commercial airliner market, MTU has content on engines in all power and thrust categories. The product applications span the whole gamut from wide-body aircraft, such as the new Airbus A380 or Boeing 787 Dreamliner, to large airliners, such as the Airbus A320 family of aircraft, all the way to short-haul aircraft and business jets. In the military arena, MTU plays a decisive role at a national level, being the lead company for almost all aircraft engines flown by the German Air Force. Furthermore, the company contributes major components and systems to all important European military programs, as for example the powerplants for the Tornado, the Eurofighter/Typhoon, and the A400M military transporter.

With its technologies, MTU is a pace-setter for the entire aviation industry: the low-pressure turbines and high-pressure compressors manufactured by MTU are among the most advanced in their class. MTU has major roles also in important European technology programs. On an international scale, Germany's Number 1 engine manufacturer cooperates with all of the big players in the industry worldwide, having made a name for itself as a must-have partner.

MTU has a global workforce of some 8,500 employees. In fiscal 2012, the company posted consolidated revenues in the amount of 3.4 billion euros. In 2012 MTU generated an adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT adjusted) of 374 million euros. This corresponds to an adjusted EBIT margin of 11.1%.
