MTU Maintenance – Global player in commercial engine MRO
Munich, June 20, 2011 – MTU Aero Engines is Germany's leading engine manufacturer and the country’s only independent engine builder. It’s an established player in the industry worldwide and designs, develops, manufactures, markets and supports commercial and military aircraft and industrial gas turbines. The company is the world's largest independent provider of commercial engine maintenance services. These activities are combined under the roof of the MTU Maintenance group. It operates facilities in Hannover, Berlin-Brandenburg (both Germany), Rzeszów (Poland), Vancouver (Canada), Zhuhai (China) and close to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). A primary part of its business is repairing engines for programs in which it is a risk and revenue sharing partner.
MTU Maintenance Hannover specializes in the repair and overhaul of medium and large-scale commercial engines. Among these are the General Electric (GE) CF6-50, CF6-80C2 and GE90-110/115, the Pratt & Whitney PW2000, the IAE (International Aero Engines) V2500 and the CFM56-7 of CFM International. Alongside technical repair offerings, including sophisticated repair techniques, the company also provides additional services like technical logistic support, customer training, financing and 24-hour service availability.
MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg focuses on the repair and overhaul of small-size aircraft engines and of industrial gas turbines (IGT). In the small engine sector, it has a joint venture with Pratt & Whitney Canada for the support of P&WC engines operated by European, African and Middle East customers. PT6A, PW200, PW300 and PW500 series engines are being supported. A shining star in the engine portfolio is the General Electric CF34, the best-selling engine in its class. The Ludwigsfelde-based shop is an authorized CF34TM service provider. In the industrial gas turbine field, the company has specialized in the repair of GE's LM series. The facility is MTU Aero Engines' IGT center of excellence. Ludwigsfelde has the only production test cell to perform development and acceptance tests on the TP400-D6 engine to power the A400M military transport. This year, MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The industry has a long tradition at this location, aero engine construction activities having been launched 75 years ago: In 1936, Daimler-Benz-Flugmotorenwerk Genshagen was set up on the site of today's Ludwigsfelde industrial park.
MTU Maintenance Zhuhai is a joint venture of MTU Aero Engines and China Southern Airlines, one of the leading airlines in China. The company is China’s largest engine maintenance shop and celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. It focuses on the repair of V2500 and CFM56 engines. In addition to the CFM56-3, also the CFM56-5B and CFM56-7 have been added to the portfolio. The test cell is one of the biggest and most advanced of its class and can accommodate all commercial engine types up to 150,000 pounds of thrust. MTU Maintenance Zhuhai has been authorized by CAAC, EASA, FAA and Airworthiness bureaus of Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam. In April, the 1,000th engine was overhauled in the shop.
MTU Maintenance Canada focuses on the repair and overhaul of CF6-50 and CFM56-3 engines. The wholly-owned MTU affiliate also provides specialized support for engine accessories.
Airfoil Services Sdn. Bhd. (ASSB) close to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a 50-50 joint venture of MTU Aero Engines and Lufthansa Technik AG. Formerly known as MTU Maintenance Malaysia, the shop repairs CF6-50, CF6-80, CFM56 series, V2500 and CF34 airfoils.
MTU Aero Engines Polska located in Rzeszów in the southeast of Poland is the latest addition to the MTU group. The company focuses on the development and production of rotor and stator blades for low-pressure turbines, assembly work on low-pressure turbines, and parts repair.
MTU Aero Engines, taken across its affiliates, has an approximate workforce of some 7,900 people. In fiscal 2010, it had around 2.7 billion euros in sales. Technologically a leading player, the company excels in low-pressure turbine and high-pressure compressor technologies, manufacturing and repair techniques. In the national military arena, it is Germany's industrial lead company for practically all aircraft engines flown by the country's armed forces, serving all systems integrator functions.
