Success story: Spare parts for J79 engines
The first J79 engines were installed in Starfighter jets more than sixty years ago. Today, 1,450 of these engines are still in service powering around 500 aircraft, most of them being F-4 Phantom jets. With a special service offering MTU helps their operators keep these aircraft in good operating condition: MTU recovers urgently needed engine spare parts from aircraft parked in the Arizona desert.
With more than 650 repair processes that are continuously further refined and its decades of experience, MTU gives nearly half of these components a second lease on life. Thanks to these spare parts, which are readily available at favorable costs, J79 engines can remain in service for some time to come.
