Larzac 04: Powering the Alpha Jet

Developed between 1969 and 1973, the Larzac 04 is a two-shaft turbofan engine. In collaboration with partners Safran Aircraft Engines, Safran Helicopter Engines, and KHD (today Rolls-Royce Deutschland), 1,274 engines were produced between 1975 and 1988. The Larzac 04 powers the Alpha Jet trainer and light ground-attack aircraft. Today, the Alpha Jet is still in service in France and twelve other countries.

MTU’s involvement in the Larzac 04

MTU took over the production of about 25 percent of the parts as well as the development engineering support. MTU’s manufacturing share primarily covers the hot section of the engine—from the combustor inlet to the turbine exit.
