T408: Powering the heavy-lift transport helicopter

The T408 is a turboshaft engine that has so far been installed in the U.S. Marine Corps’ Sikorsky CH-53K heavy-lift helicopter. Each of these “King Stallions” is equipped with three engines.
 

MTU’s involvement in the T408

GE Aerospace produces the T408 in collaboration with MTU. This marks the first time MTU has had full responsibility for an entire module in a U.S. military engine program. With its 18 percent share of the program, MTU supplies the power turbine.
