Guaranteed engine availability

Guaranteed engine availability

MTU Maintenance Lease Services B.V. can offer a variety of spare engine supply options to guarantee its customers immediate engine availability, one of these being engine pooling. The basic idea behind this concept is that engine owners contribute spare engines they do not need to a common pool. These engines can then be made available to other pool members for a pre-defined fee. The use of a pool engine is an attractive alternative to a dedicated long-term lease arrangement. Through their membership in an engine pooling program operators have access to spare engines to cover their needs for the duration of scheduled or unscheduled maintenance and also in AOG emergencies.

Airlines wishing to become a member have two possibilities: They can contribute their own spare engines to the pool or, if they do not have spare engines of their own, simply buy into the pool. Pool members pay a monthly membership fee. In return, lease pool engines are made available to them at pre-defined terms and conditions when needed. MTU Maintenance Lease Services B.V. acts as the pool manager and coordinates all transactions among members.

Both pooling variants have their merits: Engines contributed by an airline can be made available not only to their owner but also to other operators. This improves spare engine utilization and, at the same time, creates additional income for the owner. In addition, operators can make use of more engines than they have contributed to the pool.

But buying into a pool without contributing engines also offers distinct advantages: There is no capital tied up in spare engines and operators have access to one or more spare engines at short notice and at favorable conditions.
