The following is intended to be general outline of this position only. The day to day functions are determined by the group’s principal and current customer requirements.


Summary:

The Structural Analyst is tasked with analyzing and proposing designs and features to meet the requirements set forth by the customer. The position requires specific technical knowledge, directly relating to airfoils, rotors, cases, and shaft components along with expert knowledge of finite element analysis.


Essential functions:

  • Performing the structural analysis of aero engine components. In particular: airfoils, rotors, cases, and shafts
  • Modeling of complex parts and the application of numerical simulation software to perform linear and non-linear analysis of aero engine components
  • Contributing to the interdisciplinary design optimization process to meet overall product specifications in accordance with the MTU Integrated Product Team approach (IP3E).
  • Regularly interfacing with customers to ensure optimal levels of customer satisfaction
  • Aiding in the technical coaching and development of the Structures Engineers
  • All other duties as assigned by Manager


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, in Engineering or Aerospace; or equivalent
  • At least 10 years experience in the application of structural mechanics as related to gas turbine engines
  • Background in conceptual / detail design
  • Expert understanding of stress, vibration, buckling, mission fatigue lifing prediction, and optimization
  • Comprehensive lifing understanding of structural failure modes
  • Detailed understanding of high temperature cast and forged alloys, as well as composite materials
  • Sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals and familiarity with gas turbine engines systems
  • Expert knowledge of analytical software codes such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN, PATRAN
  • Excellent team building, mentoring and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with high visibility and a customer-first focus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
