The following is intended to be general outline of this position only. The day to day functions are determined by the group’s principal and current customer requirements.


Summary:

The Design Engineer is responsible for the detail design of concepts provided by the Conceptual Design Engineer. Detailed 3D modeling, drawing creation, and knowledge of tolerance stack up methodology are required.


Essential functions:

  • Working in close cooperation with the component team leader or Conceptual Design Engineer to develop CAD models and drawings for turbine engine components
  • Preparing the final dimensioning of parts to include all data necessary to produce detail drawings required for the preparation of work and quality inspection plans
  • Checking of detail, preliminary, and raw material part drawings for technical compliance with existing design standard specifications and conformance to the MTU body of standards, norms and specifications
  • Contributing to the interdisciplinary design optimization process to meet overall product specification in accordance with the MTU Integrated Product Team guidelines (IP3E). 
  • Ensuring design-to-target costs are within budget
  • All other duties as assigned by Manager


Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
  • Four year degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent Gas Turbine Industry experience
  • Design engineering experience (practical understanding of manufacturing techniques)
  • Creativity, design aptitude and ability to work systematically and assess complex mechanical systems
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Experience in design of aero engine components a plus
