Repair Development Engineer (m/f)
 
Reports to:          Manager, Repair Development Engineering
Classification:    Exempt


The following is intended to be general outline of this position only. The day to day functions are determined by the group’s principal and current customer requirements.



Summary:

This position reports to the Principal of Repair Development Engineering. Uses results and conclusions of Root Cause Technical Investigations regarding component reliability (#1 Reliability), In Flight Shut Downs (IFSDs), and Unscheduled Engine Removals (UERs) on and off-site for commercial and military gas turbine engines to investigate, develop and/or improve component inspection and repair task procedures.

The Repair Development Engineer implements results and conclusions through Engineering Changes (ECs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Technical Orders (TOs), and Internal Engineering Notices (IENs). Recommends implementation of Field Maintenance Programs (FMPs), Material Maintenance Programs (MMPs) and Material Maintenance Assistance (MMAs) when applicable. Works closely with Design, Structures, Heat Transfer, and Secondary Air Systems groups to provide customer with investigation and repair development analytical substantiation.

Provides support of JT8D, JT9D, V2500, PW2000, PW4000, PW6000, GP7000, TF33, F100, F119, and F135 programs/investigations. Prepares and presents reports that include MTU Aero Engines North America Engineering conclusions, recommendations, and substantiation for customer Program Management Team (PMT), Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT), and Configuration Control Board (CCB).

  • Gas Turbine Engine Component Manufacturing (OEM)
  • Gas Turbine Engine Component Repair Machining Methods (turn, drill, mill, deburring, etc.)
  • Repair Techniques (coatings, polishing, etc.)
  • Gas Turbine Engine Component Material Properties
  • Component Overhaul Fixturing and Tooling
  • Coatings Technology
  • Surface Finishing Technology
  • Non-Destructive Testing Methods

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder (Mandatory)
  • Four year degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent Gas Turbine Industry experience
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong organizational, planning, and presentation skills
  • Direct experience in maintaining and improving customer relations
  • High interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, and Outlook
