High-speed grinding

In engine construction, machining processes such as high-speed grinding are the most important techniques used to produced the component geometry. Given the ever more stringent requirements on component designs and materials, MTU is continuously further developing and improving these processes.

High-speed grinding: Accurate to the one-hundredth of a millimeter

High-speed grinding of a fully-bladed compressor or turbine rotor after repair is high-precision work. MTU can grind these components within an accuracy of 0.01 mm at rotor speeds of up to 5,000 rpm and simultaneously measure the progress of the work using a laser beam.
