Joining processes

In the repair of components, MTU Maintenance uses a variety of special joining processes that offer significant advantages over conventional fusion processes, such a tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. Laser powder cladding, microplasma welding and superalloy welding by inductive pre-heating, for example, produce crack-free welds while heating, with minimal distortion. The highly precise induction brazing process is used to provide the tips of rotor blades with hardfacings consisting of cubic boron nitride particles. This technique, which is unparalleled worldwide, is an improved alternative to the OEM's electroplating process.
