Stripping and coating processes

Surface protection is one of the core competencies of MTU. The company uses a wide variety of chemical, thermal, thermochemical, physical and mechanical as well as electroplating processes, both in the manufacture of new parts and in engine maintenance. The components are provided with corrosion-, wear-, erosion- and oxidation-protection coatings depending on the service conditions to which they are exposed. Ceramic thermal barrier coatings applied using the electron-beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) process provide excellent protection against the high operating temperatures. To protect parts against erosion, MTU has developed an entirely new, extremely thin multi-layer coating. The company also uses various highly efficient and reliable stripping processes that do not attack the base material of the components, among them water-jet stripping, potassium hydroxide stripping and balance stripping.
