Under-platform corrosion protection coating

Under-platform corrosion protection coating

The root area (under-platform area) of advanced directionally solidified single-crystal high-pressure turbine blades is exposed to severe corrosion attack by sulphur and alkaline earth deposits. As conventional aluminide coatings do not provide adequate protection against this form of attack, MTU has developed a local chromium coating. This coating has a particularly high chromium content and is used in repair. The corrosion protection afforded by MTU Maintenance's local chromium coating outperforms competitors by a factor of three to five.
