Component testing

A perfect engine invariably is the sum of perfect detail parts. This is why MTU uses no components other than ones that have proved their value in testing. All component tests are conducted under simulated environment and engine conditions and with realistic loads.

Components are, for example, tested for

  • proper functioning
  • service life
  • vibration behavior
  • wear on disks, blades and vanes, casings and shafts.

Typical component tests are

  • overspeed or burst tests on disks
  • bird strike tests
  • casing containment tests
  • cyclic tests on engine accessories
  • rub-in tests on rotating components
  • load tests.

In addition, tests are performed on complete subsystems (fuel, oil, hydraulic and pneumatic systems).
