MTU Maintenance signs USD440 million contract with Brazilian carrier GOL

Hanover, Germany, 31 January 2013 – MTU Maintenance, the world’s leading independent maintenance provider, is proud to announce that it has signed a new contract with the Brazilian carrier GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes for engine overhaul and on-wing support services of its CFMI CFM56-7B engines. The exclusive contract has a duration of five years and is valued at 440 million US dollars. Dr. Stefan Weingartner, President Commercial Maintenance MTU Aero Engines, said: “We are very happy to have added one of the fastest growing airlines in Latin America to our customer portfolio. This long-term maintenance contract with GOL is a major milestone for MTU Maintenance and a sign that we are strengthening our activities in the emerging markets.”

“We are looking forward to an increasingly strong partnership with MTU Maintenance,” said Adalberto Bogsan, Vice-President Technical of GOL. “Their world class repair technology and efficient customized services help us to significantly reduce our engine maintenance costs.” GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, the largest low-cost and low-fare airline in Latin America, offers around 900 daily flights to 65 destinations in 10 countries in South America, the Caribbean and the United States under the GOL and VARIG brands, using a young, modern fleet of Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, the safest, most efficient and most economical of their type. The company also operates Gollog, a logistics service which retrieves and delivers cargo and packages to and from more than 3,500 cities in Brazil and eight abroad.

Among MTU Maintenance's core competencies are the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of commercial engines including Total Engine Care (TEC®) packages for all engine types in its portfolio. The company pursues its commercial engine repair activities at globally distributed locations, significantly expanding its business in the emerging markets.
