The PW6000 has been developed in cooperation with Pratt & Whitney since 1999. FAA certification was obtained in November 2004, ETOPS approval followed in December 2005. In a first for the company, MTU has been responsible for the entire low-pressure turbine subsystem and the high-pressure compressor for the PW6000. Overhaul of the PW6000 is performed exclusively at MTU Maintenance Hannover.
The engine stands out by its high efficiency and its simplistic design. Designed for short-haul service, the PW6000 powers the Airbus A318. The PW6000 is manufactured using innovative techniques and materials. Its maintenance costs have been appreciably reduced.
