MTU Maintenance Zhuhai redelivers 100th PW1100G-JM from Jinwan site

Zhuhai, September 21, 2026 | MTU Maintenance underscores its strong role in the maintenance of geared turbofan engines (GTF), particularly the PW1100G-JM. This engine type is flown on the Airbus A320 family. The new Jinwan site, operating under MTU Maintenance Zhuhai, a joint venture between China Southern Airlines and MTU Aero Engines, has reached a major milestone in its ramp-up, successfully redelivering its 100th PW1100G-JM engine in less than 18 months after the site commenced operations in March 2025.
The achievement highlights the rapid development of the Jinwan site as an important part of Pratt & Whitney's global GTF maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network. Since opening, the site has steadily expanded its operational capabilities to support growing customer demand while maintaining a strong focus on quality, efficiency and workforce development.
“The rapid success of our Jinwan facility, including this 100th redelivery so soon after the start of operations, speaks foremost to the collaborative spirit that governs the MTU network,” says Gert Wagner, President and CEO of MTU Maintenance Zhuhai and responsible for its Jinwan branch. “The experience and expertise that we developed in the GTF program at our original site over the years was further empowered and supported by our colleagues from MTU sites in Hannover and Munich, Germany, as well as EME Aero in Poland. The scaling up of Jinwan is also their accomplishment.”
The Jinwan facility plays a strategic role within the global GTF network. Its successful ramp-up has been supported by advanced technologies such as the Fixed Overhaul System (FOS), initiatives designed to reduce turnaround times and a dedicated training engine that has accelerated employee qualification and on-the-job learning. As demand for GTF maintenance continues to grow, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai is expanding its workforce to support the ongoing ramp-up of operations and future shop-visit volumes.
Building on the momentum of this first milestone, the team has already set its sights on reaching the next 100-engine mark in an even shorter timeframe.
