MTU Maintenance signs exclusive contract with CONVIASA

Ludwigsfelde (Germany), May 14, 2014 – MTU Maintenance, one of the world’s leading providers of commercial aero engine maintenance, has signed a new contract with the state-owned Venezuelan carrier CONVIASA for engine overhaul and on-wing support services of its General Electric CF34-10 engines including lease engine services. Under the exclusive contract, MTU Maintenance will be responsible for the maintenance of all CF34-10 engines powering CONVIASA’s ERJ-190 fleet.

Dr. Stefan Weingartner, President Commercial Maintenance at MTU Aero Engines, said: “We are happy to add Venezuela’s flag carrier to our MRO customer portfolio. It is a sign that we are further strengthening our activities in the emerging markets. Moreover, this long-term maintenance contract with CONVIASA is another sign that MTU Maintenance continues its successful work on the CF34 engine program. MTU Maintenance has been an authorized CF34TM service provider for the engine family since 2001 and has performed over 1,000 engine repairs, both off-wing and on-wing.”

Headquartered at Simón Bolívar International Airport, Venezuela, CONVIASA is the country’s largest airline. It offers around 90 daily flights to 23 domestic and 10 international destinations. CONVIASA currently has twenty-six aircraft in service, among them thirteen Embraer ERJ190 aircraft. “We are looking forward to building a strong partnership with MTU Maintenance,” said  General Luis Gustavo Graterol Caraballo, President of CONVIASA. “Based on their world class repair technology and efficient customized services we are confident to keep and improve our safety and quality standards at very competitive costs.”

In addition to core engine maintenance, MTU Maintenance provides service solutions such as spare engine supply, on-site and on-wing services as well as technical and logistic support. Its Ludwigsfelde-based shop, MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg, supports all current engine models of the CF34 family (CF34-1/3, -8C/E, -10E) and relies on more than ten years of experience in providing MRO services for this engine type. The company is one of just a few licensed MRO providers worldwide, and the number one service center for CF34 maintenance in Europe.
