PW1100G: MTU Aero Engines to share in a mega contract from India

• IndiGo equips 150 A320neo jets with the geared turbofan
• Projected revenues for MTU: approx. 300 million euros

Munich, April 1, 2011 – MTU Aero Engines benefits from one of the largest orders placed in recent aviation history. Indian airline IndiGo has selected Pratt & Whitney's PurePower PW1100G to equip 150 A320neo aircraft it has on firm order. The deal is for 300 of the propulsion systems, plus options on additional engines. MTU Aero Engines expects the deal to be worth about 300 million euros; the company has a stake of about 15 percent in the geared turbofan (GTF) engine.

MTU CEO Egon Behle said: "That's a stunning success for the geared turbofan, and of course for us too. MTU is proud to have a substantial workshare in this tremendously successful engine program."

The German engine manufacturer is responsible for the unique, high-speed low-pressure turbine, one of the key components of the GTF and, jointly with its U.S. partner, is building a new high-pressure compressor. IndiGo's decision brings the total number of orders received for PW1000G engines, including options, to more than 1,200. In addition to the A320 neo, the engine powers Bombardier's CSeries, Mitsubishi's MRJ, and Irkut's MS-21.
