For over 30 years, ASSB in Malaysia has been home to MTU’s center of excellence for the repair of airfoils in high-pressure and low-pressure turbines using state-of-the-art processes. As of 2003, MTU Aero Engines and Lufthansa Technik have been equal partners in the joint venture. 

The portfolio contains all major civil aircraft engine types – including CFMI’s CFM56, GE’s CF6-80C2, IAE’s V2500 and the Engine Alliance’s GP7000.

In early 2021, ASSB completed an 5,200 square meters expansion of its facility in order to increase repair capacities and provide additional highly-skilled job opportunities to the Kuala Lumpur region.

Engine portfolio

CF6-80C2

The CF6 is one of the best-selling engines in its class and is used in medium-haul and widebody aircraft. The CF6-80C2 is maintained at MTU Maintenance Hannover and MTU Maintenance Canada.

CFM56-5B/-7B

The CFM56 engine family comprises five different models, two of which are looked after by MTU Maintenance. CFMI, a 50/50 cooperation between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines, has delivered more than 30,000 engines to date.

GP7000

The GP7000 is used in the long-haul sector and powers what is currently the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380. It is lead developed, produced and distributed by the Engine Alliance. MTU is involved in the development and manufacture of various components as well as in the maintenance of the low-pressure turbine.

V2500

MTU develops and manufactures the IAE V2500 engine in cooperation with Pratt & Whitney, PWAEI and Japanese Aero Engines Corporation. By now, the V2500 has logged more than 280 million flight hours and is maintained at various MTU Maintenance locations.
