“Committed to the mission”— this is the principle that guides MTU as it provides its military customers with holistic and effective support. Such support includes conventional engine maintenance, smart repairs, and a wide range of services that are tailored to satisfy its military partners’ specific needs.

Customers and partners such as the German Armed Forces benefit from seamless support during the entire lifecycle of their engines. MTU reliably delivers top performance at all times.

Intelligent solutions such as engine health monitoring and MTU’s proprietary CORTEX Military tool enable predictive maintenance planning and costing. In the future, the use of augmented reality and artificial intelligence will accelerate maintenance and repair processes.

Strong together: MTU and the Bundeswehr

MTU’s collaboration with the Bundeswehr (Germany’s Armed Forces) is an excellent example of a service concept tailored to a customer’s specific needs. In 2002, MTU became the first industrial company to successfully establish a cooperation with the German military and now services a substantial portion of its national partner’s propulsion systems. MTU experts and specialists from the Bundeswehr work shoulder to shoulder to maintain the EJ200, RB199 and MTR390 military engines. The combination of MTU’s technical expertise and the Bundeswehr’s operational experience ensures highly industrialized and cost-effective maintenance activities.

Ensuring a successful mission

Innovative, powerful and reliable: MTU services the TP400-D6 — the most powerful turboprop engine in the Western world—for the Bundeswehr’s Airbus A400M, a military transporter. The German Armed Forces also rely on MTU as an expert partner for maintenance of the T64 engines in the Sikorsky CH-53G transport helicopter.

MTU will continue to prove itself a reliable partner to the military in the future. One way will be by taking the lead for maintenance and service activities on the Next European Fighter Engine (NEFE) for the next-generation European fighter jet.

A reliable partner worldwide

MTU Maintenance Canada maintains engines in aircraft operated by the U.S. Air Force: the F108 engines for the KC-135 refueler—in collaboration with GE Aerospace—and the F138 engines for the C-5M Galaxy transport aircraft. In addition, MTU’s Vancouver site maintains the V2500-E5 for the C-390 Millennium military transporter. MTU Maintenance is the official service depot for this engine type. This will consolidate the company’s position as a global partner for military applications of V2500 engines in the decades to come.
