90 years and beyond

90 years and beyond – Passion for engines

MTU Aero Engines has been at the forefront of the engine industry for nine decades. The expertise and passion of its employees—its “Passion for Engines”—brought the company to this point and will continue to carry it into the future. The next chapter in the success story will be propulsion concepts that enable zero-emission aviation by 2050. Because our claim is clear: we shape the future of aviation.

Our history

The company’s 90-year history reflects recent German history—from aero engine manufacturing to reconstruction with a clear transatlantic focus to a globally valued industrial partner and provider of comprehensive services.

History

Passion for engines

Aviation brings people together, connecting cultures and economic areas. Today, MTU has more than 12,000 people from 88 nations working together at its 18 locations worldwide. They are united by a common passion: a fascination for engines. We at MTU are experts in the design, development, manufacture and maintenance of commercial and military engines—in all thrust and power categories—and of stationary industrial gas turbines.

We are passionate about the perfection of every single component that we manufacture and maintain—throughout its lifecycle. Quality is our passion, and we use it to put passenger safety first. Innovative strength drives us forward to make our vision of emissions-free flight a reality. Every engine component that leaves our company reflects the dedication and expertise of our teams.

We are proud of what we have achieved together, and we look to the future with confidence and undiminished passion for engines.

„I recently flew in an A320neo. Back at my workplace a little while later, when I was holding a component from that aircraft’s engine type in my hands, I thought: Cool, I just flew with that engine. Maybe I even coated one of its components.”

Maximilian Bayer, Thermal Spraying Process Specialist

„We examine the component from many different angles to ensure maximum quality. We make sure that any assembly stamped with the MTU logo has MTU quality underneath.”

Marc Rehermann, Quality Controller for assembly

“We process the components with a great deal of precision, following the regulations to the letter. This is essential, not least because our engines will go on to power aircraft that carry thousands of passengers.”

Manfred Glas, Machinist in manufacturing
