MTU Power boosts field service support for gas turbines with Houston location

| MTU Maintenance Service Center Houston is the network’s latest level-2 IGT shop

| MTU aims to cover need for field service workscopes in North America

Ludwigsfelde, April 8, 2026 | MTU Maintenance, the world-leading provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for LMTM-series industrial gas turbines (IGT) under the network’s MTU Power brand, is boosting its tailored support for the North American market with a level-2 shop in Houston, Texas.

MTU Maintenance Service Center Houston will be a dedicated base for field service operations in the Americas. Located near key customers, such as Cheniere Energy and the broader oil and gas industry, the service center also enhances material availability by allowing spare parts, serviceable IGT modules as well as entire customer engines to be stocked locally. While MTU has historically delivered level-2 services primarily in the field, the addition in Houston expands MTU’s capabilities to include standardized inshop repair scopes performed under controlled conditions. The location will offer an array of complementary workscopes, ranging from scheduled inspections and component repairs to fuel system conversions and package exchanges.

Additionally, the facility will have the ability to store and prepare IGTs for shop visits in Ludwigsfelde, Germany, MTU’s home and fully GE-licensed depot for gas turbine MRO. Strategically, the Texas shop complements the company’s global network of Level-2 service centers and supports the continued capacity expansion of its IGT operations.

Xaver Schmid, VP of Global On-Site and Field Service Operations at MTU Maintenance, says the Houston location further strengthens the company’s presence in one of the most important markets for LMTMseries IGTs. The North American market continues to grow dynamically, driven by rising energy demand and the expansion of data and energyintensive infrastructure.

“MTU has maintained a strong presence in North America for many years through a highly capable IGT Field Service team. We are continuing to expand the local team in terms of both capacity and capabilities. This means that we can be closer to our customers and provide even more comprehensive field service support,” Schmid says.

MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg, located in Ludwigsfelde, Germany, is the heart of MTU’s IGT program, with a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility for its MRO portfolio of LM2500TM and LM6000TM engines currently under construction. In February, the company signed a contract with Cheniere Energy, the largest producer of liquefied natural gas in the United States, to provide comprehensive MRO services for the energy company’s IGT fleet at its Sabine Pass LNG plant. The Houston location joins MTU’s global network of level-2 IGTs shops comprised of facilities in Australia, Brazil and Thailand.
