United by appreciation

MTU sets great store by an appreciative corporate culture that is committed to open and fair collaboration. As an early signatory to the Diversity Charter, we are committed to equal opportunities and take a clear stand against discrimination. These principles are anchored in our global Code of Conduct. We support employee resource groups, which are self-organized networks of employees that promote a diverse work atmosphere. We’re firmly convinced that different ideas, perspectives, and experiences enrich us and are crucial to MTU’s future viability.

Our success depends on a change of perspective

We’re convinced that having a workforce with a broad spectrum of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds is crucial to MTU’s corporate success. To attract the best talent for that, we’re also constantly pursuing the goal of inspiring more women to join MTU and placing them in management positions. In accordance with legal requirements in Germany, we’ve set ourselves binding targets for MTU’s German sites. We’re making progress on this path, even though aviation is characterized by numerous career opportunities of a technical nature—which are often dominated by men. That’s why we’re involved in educational initiatives such as MINTvernetzt in Germany in order to get young people interested in study programs and careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We’re also a partner organization of Germany’s Klischeefrei initiative, which promotes career and study choices based on personal strengths and interests.

Our culture is diverse

We have a presence at 19 locations on five continents, and our more than 13,000 employees from over 80 nations work every day to make global mobility safer. We don’t just call ourselves international and diverse, we think that way at all levels. Our cross-site collaboration is characterized by shared understanding and mutual respect. We live by the OneMTU concept and support this through intercultural training, cross-site dialogue formats, and the opportunity to work at sites abroad in the course of secondments. At MTU, the opportunity to gain international work experience starts with our apprentices.

“It was April 3, 2023. Just two days before, I’d sat my final exams in the 4th semester at university, and now I was waking up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: for me, a new continent, a new culture, and a new, first day at work. Still suffering from jet lag, I set off on the short commute of about one kilometer to ASSB. That day, however, the snake I encountered on the footpath would turn out not to be the only obstacle. New dialects, high humidity, and cold air from the air conditioning made the first day in my new home even more challenging. On my way home, with the active support of my translation app and a little gesticulation, I bought myself a ‘Paprik Ayam’ at a street kitchen—one that later became my favorite food spot. It wasn’t until the evening, while I was admiring the Kuala Lumpur skyline, that I realized where I’d actually ended up. At the tender age of 20, I had the privilege of working in an international high-tech joint venture on the other side of the world in the heart of Southeast Asia as part of my dual study program—goosebumps!”

MTU has many facets and faces

At MTU, we create an appreciative and respectful working environment in which talented individuals can flourish. The focus is on good performance and personal commitment. At our company, four generations—from baby boomers to Gen Z, which is currently entering the job market—work closely together. This cross-generational teamwork combines valuable experience with fresh momentum to promote innovations that strengthen our competitiveness. All employees, regardless of their age, have equal access to training and development opportunities. Our sites, and especially new buildings, are designed with accessibility in mind. At our sites in Germany, we have elected representatives for employees with severe disabilities as well as dedicated inclusion officers who are committed to the interests of people with disabilities. We support self-organized networks and groups of employees that promote a culture in which everyone at MTU feels an authentic sense of belonging. For example, we have a queer employee network under the patronage of our COO Dr. Silke Maurer and a Network of Engine Women under the patronage of CEO Lars Wagner.
