Partnership with principles

MTU works with numerous suppliers around the globe. We hold them to the environmental and social criteria that are important to us as a basis for trusted and fruitful collaboration. We place a particularly strong focus on safeguarding the respect of human rights. We expect the same standards from our suppliers that we apply to our own business activities.

Supplier Code of Conduct

We have established a binding Code of Conduct for suppliers that is an important basis for our collaboration with them. This Supplier Code of Conduct is informed by the ten principles of the UN Global Compact and sets out standards for social and ecological responsibility. It also requires suppliers to observe and uphold human rights and calls for integrity in business conduct, including a ban on corruption and bribery. Each contract signed by a supplier includes the commitment to abide by these principles and also to communicate them to subcontractors.

Risk analysis and sustainability monitoring

We carry out an annual risk analysis for our direct suppliers using a standardized tool. The analysis is based on defined criteria that are relevant to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, such as the product groups and the countries they are sourced from. This risk analysis is part of our risk management process for suppliers. We also audit key suppliers to check their compliance with sustainability criteria. This is done with the help of a scorecard based on an ESG assessment tool. Our risk management includes preventive measures as well as corrective measures if necessary.

Conflict minerals: Transparency about raw materials

We strive for a sustainable, transparent value chain that excludes the use of conflict minerals. Some of our components contain certain raw materials, such as tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold, that are classed as conflict minerals. The raw materials reach our production facilities via a global supply chain. In our General Terms and Conditions and contract provisions, we require suppliers to provide information about the source of minerals in accordance with the EICC/GeSi Conflict Minerals Reporting Template. Suppliers who deliver components containing minerals declared in the Dodd-Frank Act are requested to state the origin of these minerals. We also require them to source raw materials solely from certified mines and primary-alloy producers (Conformant smelter and refiner lists).
