Our contribution to the 2030 Agenda

Global challenges can only be solved together. As a participant in the UN Global Compact, we want to do what we can to further the UN’s 2030 Agenda. The agenda aims to make sure that economic progress goes hand in hand with social justice and ecological responsibility. At its core are 17 goals for sustainable development, or SDGs for short. We are living up to this responsibility and contributing in particular to the following SDGs:

SDG 4: Quality education

We promote high-quality education, because aviation needs well-trained specialists. Training and education ensure the continuous development of our employees. At our sites, we offer a wide range of training programs that reinforce regional educational standards and enable young people to enter technical professions. Our collaboration with educational institutions also supports the next generation of skilled workers.

SDG 5: Gender equality

We are committed to equal opportunities and send a clear message against discrimination. Gender-independent equality is one basis of our corporate culture. We promote equal opportunities through initiatives such as Girls’ Day and MINTvernetzt, and we strengthen the development of women through in-house networks such as the Network of Engine Women. Our goal: fair opportunities and inclusive collaboration.

SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth

Decent work is a top priority for us. We do not tolerate discrimination or human rights violations, and we ensure occupational health and safety in accordance with legal requirements. We also offer comprehensive occupational health management measures. Fairness, safety, and development opportunities are key features of our work culture and form the basis for sustainable growth.

SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production

As an aviation company, we attach particular importance to safe and sustainable products and processes. In manufacturing and maintenance, we focus on repair instead of replacement, thereby strengthening the circular economy. Our MRO services and expertise help conserve resources by ensuring that components are used for as long as possible. We assess the impact across the entire product life cycle when we make business decisions.

SDG 13: Climate action

Adapting our business model to the challenges of climate change is a central component of our strategy, which we implement via the Claire technology agenda, the ecoRoadmap climate strategy, and the ecoTransition initiative. In our view, climate action is a prerequisite for the long-term competitiveness of the aviation industry. MTU’s transition plan pursues the following objectives: reduction of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, resilience to climate change and the increasing scarcity of resources, and environmental sustainability over the entire lifecycle.

SDG 16: Peace, justice, and strong institutions

We take a zero-tolerance approach to corruption and bribery. Our whistleblower system enables violations to be reported from anywhere in the world, and our actions are characterized by integrity and responsibility. In our Code of Conduct, we commit to human rights, equal opportunities, safe working conditions, environmental protection, and sustainable business practices such as fair competition and trade compliance. We pass on these standards via our Supplier Code of Conduct.
