MTU Maintenance celebrates 10 years of Pratt & Whitney GTF engine MRO

Hannover, 22 April 2026 | MTU Maintenance, global market leader in customized solutions for aero engines, marks 10 years since induction of the first Pratt & Whitney GTFTM engine at MTU Maintenance Hannover in 2016. Since then, MTU has expanded its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network to include EME Aero, a 50/50 joint venture with Lufthansa Technik, and MTU Maintenance Zhuhai, a 50/50 joint venture with China Southern Ltd. Collectively, these three MTU shops carry out a third of all GTF engine shop visits annually worldwide, and service all variants of the GTF family: PW1100G-JM, PW1500G and PW1900G.

MTU has steadily been increasing MRO capacity as well as reducing turnaround times across its sites to support customers. Just last year, the company committed to providing over 600 shop visits across the GTF engine family per year. Ramp-up at all sites continues, with EME Aero delivering its 1000th engine in March 2026, and the newly introduced Jinwan expansion at MTU Maintenance Zhuhai completing 65 GTF shop visits in its first year of operations. Furthermore, GTF engine repairs are carried out at MTU Aero Engines Munich and MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg.

The GTF is the most fuel-efficient engine for the single aisle market, delivering up to 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% smaller noise footprint compared to the prior generation of engines. The engine family has amassed over 13,000 engine orders and commitments from more than 90 customers worldwide, and over 50 million flight hours in service.
