The most significant way we can help protect the environment is by means of ecologically efficient products. Environmental protection and climate action play a vital role in our manufacturing and maintenance activities, too. This is enshrined in the MTU Principles and has been established at our sites through a raft of ecological measures. Our understanding of responsibility is comprehensive: for the product as well as for its development, manufacture and repair. We are committed to the Paris Agreement and are systematically pursuing the transformation of our site operations.

New engine solutions must go beyond existing concepts. Commercial aircraft and engines must become even cleaner, quieter and more fuel-efficient. Emissions-free flight is the overall goal.
MTU accepts this responsibility and is simultaneously working on evolutionary engine concepts for tomorrow and revolutionary ideas for the future.
MTU has defined ecological targets for its manufacturing and maintenance activities, the aim being clean production that goes hand in hand with the responsible use of water, energy and materials and keeps the environmental impact caused by emissions as low as possible. Energy-efficient production not only conserves resources and improves ecological compatibility, but also saves the company money in the form of reduced energy costs. Intelligent recirculation systems, heat recovery, high recycling volumes and the use of renewable energy sources ensure the economical use of raw materials and energy.
The company complies with all international environmental standards and is either certified in accordance with ISO 14001 or validated in accordance with the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
MTU’s Munich and Hannover locations are additionally validated in accordance with the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). Independent external auditors and environmental consultants conduct annual reviews to confirm adherence to the latest environmental protection requirements. This monitoring is supplemented by internal inspections and audits.
What’s more: At many of its locations MTU has established standards that are more stringent than current legal requirements and environmental standards. At its site in China, for instance, MTU by far surpasses nationally mandated environmental requirements, thus setting an example of responsible action to ensure long-term sustainability.
MTU is planning to make operations at its production site in Munich, which is also the company headquarters, climate neutral by late 2021. To this end, the company has launched the initiative ecoRoadmap aimed at a gradual 60 percent decrease in CO2 emissions by 2030.
